About Prior Learning Credits

Learning credits are a system whereby we can give or add academic credits for your education, knowledge level and diving certification level with your agency based on your training agency standards. They may be used at higher education levels to meet credit targets, or to skip elective modules, and to attain "Distinction" at some levels based on your tutors assessment of your work.

This means that credits have a real value and may help you to gain higher level qualifictions in less time or gaining higher level recognition. They are awarded based on our strict criteria of balance in diver training between; Knowledge, Diving Experience and Skills Levels based on certification requirements from your training agency.

How Our Credit System Works

Level 0.

Open Water Divers, Resort Divers and Entry Level Divers with less than 20 Open Water Dives, do not at this time earn any prior learning credits, as these level are considered to be low experience levels.

Level 1.

Sports Divers, Open water divers and divers with 20+ Open Water Dives maybe entitled to  one (1) prior learning Credit.

Level 2.

Rescue Divers, Advanced Divers, Specialist Divers with 60+ OW Dives or Certified Technical Divers maybe entitled to two (2) prior learning Credits.

Level 3.

Certified Leadership Levels, Dive Leader, Dive Master, Dive Con etc. with 100+ Dives Experience, maybe entitled to three (3) prior learning Credits.

Level 4.  

Entry Level Open Water Scuba Instructors, OWSI, Resort or Club Instructors with 150+ Open Water Dives maybe entitled to four (4) prior learning Credits.

Level 5.

Advanced Instructors, MSDT's, Specialist Sports Instructors with 150+ Open Water Dives maybe entitled to five (5) prior learning Credits.

Level 6.

Technical Instructors (Certified with Technical Agencies), Instructor Trainers and Staff Instructors with 150+ Open Water Dives maybe entitled to six (6) prior learning Credits.

Level 7.

Course Directors, Examiners, Technical Trainers (Certified with Technical Agencies) with 250+ Open Water Dives maybe entitled to seven (7) prior learning Credits.

International College of Diving Credit System Requirements

HE Certificate Levels require 120 Hours of study and 6 Units at 1 credit per unit. = 6 Credits Plus 6 credits for Assignments Total 12 credits required. Study time from 3 months to 6 months.

Diploma in Diving and Diploma in Diving Education require 240 Hours of study and 24 units at 1 credit per unit. = 24 credits Plus 12 credits for Assignments Total 36 Credits required. Study time from 6 months to 1 year.

Degree Level Programs. Three (3) years, 720 hours of study minimum and 24x 3 = 72 units
